the silence is a song

Stay in this garden for a moment. See who you are. Listen to the silence. What you hear is more than words. The silence is a hymn of praise.
This artwork is a place for attention. In a digital economy, attention is the most precious commodity. By turning off our devices, we regain our own time and become analog humans again. I use the symbolism of the garden, based on the symbolism of the enclosed medieval monastery garden as a refuge and sanctuary.

Embroidered plants, ornaments, and abstractions on transparent fabric that blocks radiation.

This installation has been exhibited at the Graceland Festival, during monnikenwork 2023 and in Museum Cloister ter Apel.
Made possible in part by a contribution from the Vermeulen Brauckman Foundation.

Like Art creates art about you or for your loved ones: attention becomes tangible. The artwork you order is unique and tailored entirely to the individual; the artists translate your story into an image, drawing, or collage. Like Art is an online version of the project “No one like you,” which is also carried out physically in various locations.

How do you find a moment of silence and reflection?

I found inspiration in medieval books of hours and am sharing this experience in an interactive art project. Create a page from your life and become part of something bigger. You can find participants’ pages on Instagram Paginadagdelen.

In 2022, Museum Klooster ter Apel will host an exhibition of the project.

For this project, I received a grant from the Incident Budget of the Groningen Arts Council..kunstraad

monnikenwerk/'monks' work

Monnikenwerk is an art project that takes you on a tour of medieval churches in Groningen and Friesland. In the quiet space of a medieval church, artists work on their monnikenwerk—art that sometimes touches on something greater than ourselves. At the end of the working day, visitors are welcome to experience the church and the art.

worldchapel

At Graceland Festival 2022, we created the installation Wereldkapel (World Chapel), a self-built chapel made of willow branches. What is your message to the earth?
In this chapel, you can marry the earth. In this performance, a new connection is made between humans and the earth.

artproject Eemsdelta

Eems Delta art project

In Delfzijl and Zeerijp, I worked on ‘Kunstwerd’ in 2025, in an empty house. Together with residents of the municipality of Eemsdelta, I created artworks about experiences with damage claims, relocation, and reinforcement. We built Kunstwerd in a temporary studio.

Made possible by My Home My Story/Eemsdelta municipality.

The artist collective Sound of Silence consists of artists from various disciplines. We create installations on location, where we use our images to create a space that transports visitors from one experience to another. In this way, both the observer and the artist remain involved in the search for unexpected, meaningful connections.

In recent years, we have completed various projects, including at Noorderzon (Groningen).
